The Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre, established on 1 July 2018, brings together industry, research and the community to capitalise on Australia’s food waste opportunities. Winning this fight will save Australia $20 billion per annum in food waste through increased industry profitability and reduced food insecurity, as well as enhancing Australia’s reputation as a sustainable and trusted producer of premium food products.  It is the largest collaboration of industry, government and research stakeholders globally.

Through our three research and development programs, we will REDUCE food waste across the supply chain, TRANSFORM unavoidable waste into innovative high-value co-products, and ENGAGE with industry and consumers to create change.

With 59 industry, university and state government participants, the Fight Food Waste CRC will have a real impact on food waste reduction and generate commercial outcomes. Potatoes South Australia is a supporting participant together with core participants; Thomas Foods International Fresh Produce, Zerella Fresh, The Mitolo Group and SA Potato Co.  The specific project in the potato industry is 'Converting potato waste into pre-biotics and other valuable products'.

The Fight Food Waste CRC Program aims to improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of the Australian food industry.

The program fosters high quality research to solve industry-identified problems through industry-led and outcome-focused collaborative research partnerships between industry entities and research organisations.

The program aims to encourage and facilitate small and medium enterprise (SME) participation in collaborative research.
